Dogue de Bordeaux - The Dogue de Bordeaux is a powerful, muscular dog that makes an excellent guard of both person and property. A compact strongly built athlete, the dogue possesses size that belies his agility and speed. The qualities were originally developed for working, protecting property and hunting. As you study the dogue's characteristics, keep in mind the breeds original purpose. The jaws are prominent due to strong development of chewing muscle. This is a necessary characteristic for bull-baiting. The chest is very broad and deep, let down below the elbows. Its depth is more than half of the dog's withers; this is regarded as an important proportion. The Dogue de Bordeaux should not look like an over sized bull-dog. The coat is short, fine and silky, colored in all shades of red and fawn to deep red mahogany. Good pigmentation of skin is favored. White markings on the chest and feet are tolerated. The Dogue de Bordeaux should have a well marked red or black facial mask. The color of the nose corresponds to the color of the face mask. The Dogue de Bordeaux is a charming breed that is very warm and friendly to humans and small animals. It is a very good dog with children for two reasons: First, the Dogue de Bordeaux love to be around humans that ~ a family can not be big enough. Second, the Dogue de Bordeaux has plenty of patience and will deal with the typical teasing, tail pulling and other annoyances in which exuberant children tend to engage. Dogues are happy to comply with the silliest of children games such as wearing hats and playing dress up. ~ A Kennel Club Book

Thank you for taking the time to visit my site. My name is Julie and my dogues are first and foremost my pets. They have been raised with children, they are wonderful playmates gentle and kind. This is Sierra's first litter, so it is quite an adventure for all of us. I live about 40 minutes from Denver in a small town called Brighton where they can run and play in a large yard. Living with these gentle giants has changed my life.  The Bordeaux is an excellent guard dog that protects the home with courage and love, but not aggression.
